Brief description:

Two Humanitarian Health Scholarships are available for students from low- and middle-income countries who wish to apply for the online Master of Applied Science (MAS) in Humanitarian Health program at John Hopkins University. All enrolled MAS students will also receive the OPAL (Online Programs in Applied Learning) Scholarship, which is a per-credit amount that will be applied to all required courses throughout the academic program.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The Humanitarian Health Scholarship covers US$10,000 of the tuition cost, disbursed over the length of the program.

The OPAL Scholarship: All students enrolled in an OPAL MAS or Certificate program will be awarded this scholarship, in the amount of US$460 per credit. This scholarship is designated for tuition costs only and is disbursed incrementally for each credit taken towards required coursework.

Eligibility:

Applicants of the Humanitarian Health Scholarships must be citizens and residents of low- or middle-income countries (LMICs), as defined by the World Bank. Applicants who are temporarily residing in high-income countries may be considered as well, but they will have to contact the University for additional information. Only those who are able to fluently speak, read, and understand English and to actively participate in a fast-paced English-only academic program; are eligible. They must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree, with a strong record of successful academic performance. They have to be professionally involved in humanitarian health emergencies/disasters for over 2 years, and plan to continue to work in these contexts after completion of the degree. Humanitarian health emergencies/disasters refer to a wide range of settings and situations that includes conflicts, natural disasters, infectious disease outbreaks as well as mixed migration in low- and middle-income countries.

Prospective applicants from the US and other high-income countries are not eligible for the Humanitarian Health Scholarship for this program.
